SUBJECT: JG LINE DANCE MARATHON
DATE: MAY 31 – JUNE 3, 2012
Hi Line Dancers,
Registration and Information forms will be on the website www.jgpresentsmarathon.com early next week. You’ll also be able to book your hotel room online from the website.
With Scott Blevins’ help, and the input of many from the dance community, I’ve changed the entire format of the Marathon. This is the beginning of a new era for The Marathon, and I’m very excited, and a little bit scared. ;-)
Some of the changes are:
There will not be any paid workshops.
There will be four workshop rooms and all workshops will be included in the weekend pass.
The dance previews will be Thursday and Friday evenings.
There will be two ballrooms for evening dancing. The Imperial ballroom - (focusing on today’s popular dances and requests) and the Empire ballroom - (focusing on beginner and improver dances taught throughout the weekend and requests)
We’re still going to have a theme for the weekend and hope folks will join in the fun by dressing up early, before the Saturday evening show, and dance in costume til the wee hours. No parade, but will still have a costume contest during the evening.
With your participation, I know we can make sure that the Marathon continues to be a successful and popular event for many years to come.
Look for to seeing many of you again.

Subject: Monday 1/30/12 evening line dance class at Belleair, FL
From: Mary Ann Young
There is a change of venue from our usual Town Hall Meeting Room to the Gymnasium on the South side of the building. We need to wear soft-soled shoes. You can still park in the parking lot on the West side of the building and walk around to the back. Or you can make a left before approaching the sports center and park in front of the building. (They re setting up the room for election day, 1/31/12).Looking forward to seeing all of our "regulars" and our "snowbirds" tomorrow night at 7. If you Rock Your Body while Drinkin' Wine, you might be Walkin' the Blues, and making Moves Like Jagger....it's sure to be a Bittersweet Memory. And it's not even corn season here in Florida.
Have a request? Let me know ahead of time if it is a new one, and I will do my best to teach it....thanks for bearing with me as my perfectly-mannered guinea pigs!
Happy dancing,
Mary Ann

Subject: New England Men Of Line Dance (M.O.L.D.) report
From: Bob Grundy
Our 4th Men Of Line Dance is now in the history book. What a truly fantastic weekend. It all began in Peabody, Ma with Joe Steele on Friday night as he stepped up to the plate and filled in the void left by a schedule snafu at the Claddagh. A lot of people had planned on dancing on Friday night and this enabled them to get started. He played the favorites from all those who were there. Thank You Joe. On Saturday I got to the Claddagh at 7:45 am. Louis St George (our weekend Deejay) was all set up, the hall was almost the way we wanted it and people started arriving at 8. Even tho registration was to begin at 9, by then almost everyone was there and Louis had them On The Floor. At 10 am the lessons started with Don Carleton teaching Scrap It and Waltz Across Texas downstairs while Louis St George taught Cheek To Cheek on the main floor. 11 Am lessons were with Steve Lescarbeau teaching Rock This Party while Christopher Petre taught Hot Tamales. Then it was lunch time provided by the Claddagh Pub. Soup and sandwiches along with their "home Made Chips", filled everyones belly and energized them for the afternoon. Our afternoon session kicked of at 2 pm with Dean Leclair instructing Soluna while Joe Steel reviewed Conrado Cha Cha and My Maria. The 3 pm lessons were Hot Potato with Christopher Petre opposite Dean Leclair and Street Soul. The days last lessons began at 4 pm with Louis St George doing Jukebox while Steve Lescarbeay did Keep It Burning. Bonus teaches were Unmistakeable from Dean Leclair and No Superman by Louis St George. There was never a lull as Louis played music in between each lesson as well as having everyone dance the lessons from the day as it progressed. Then to dinner. Can you say "delicious"? Salad, Stuffed Chicken Breasts, Roasted Potatoes and Grilled Veggie mix. Thank You Claddagh Staff! Then at 7 pm our open dance began. All I can say is Louis (Happy Birthday) was on his game. He was working his magic and kept the floor filled all night long. The Claddagh Pub was celebrating their 20 years in business and included the dancers to a few treats. First they had two Irish Step Dancers do a dance for us. Brian who is with Lord of the dance and 8 time Ma. Step Champion along Scott who dances with Riverdance and is the 2009 World Step Champion (and I thought I could dance). Both of these young men are from Lawrence, Ma. Later as we were doing our raffle, we were entertained by four members of The Massachusetts State Police Bag Pipe Band. Thank You Claddagh For sending them all up to us. It was awesome. I did say in earlier posts this had the potential to be the BEST Men Of Line Dance events to date and IT WAS. Thank you to everyone involved with putting it together and a BIG Thank You to all those attending. I hope you all had a GREAT DAY. To St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, New England Cares.
