Well, it's Sunday afternoon and we got home from
the Central Florida Dance Stampede and had a wonderful time as usual.
I always feel at home in the hotel they use for this event and it was
a fun weekend with friends from all over. Jill McBride from the UK was
there with her handsome and GREAT 17-year-old son, John, who doesn't
dance and sat there patiently all day Saturday and into early Sunday
morning while Jill danced and socialized and almost taught me Street
Soul. I can do it until the music comes on and then I'm DUH!!!! We also
had Louie St. George and you know I always enjoy Louie being around
(except when he insists on pointing out how well I'm doing on every
dance I DON'T know.) This weekend was primarily one line dance room
going for lessons most of the time and I liked it because we are leaving
for the linedanceshowdown on Thursday and my little brain couldn't take
too much at one time this weekend. There were some good dances taught.
We couldn't get there on Friday but were there for all day Saturday
and Sunday morning. I got to learn Cheetah (taught
by Louie and I really have it!!!) Barry Durand taught a simple version
of Speechless and he did a really wonderful job of
teaching the basic dance so you can add the turns when and if you're
ever ready to add them. You're going to love this dance if you just
don't freak when you go look at the video of Tom Mickers teaching it
on mydancelesson.com. Another
awesome dance was choreographed and taught by Donna Caudill (super duper
advanced) but I wish you could have seen her doing it. I'll get the
sheet and send it out because I don't have the name but if you ever
see her somewhere, you have to get her to do this dance for you. Guyton
didn't teach at all Saturday (Wah) but he has a new surprise dance for
you that is cute and he'll probably teach it next weekend in Boston.
Here's the dances that were taught and I'll put a note by the ones I
took the lesson and the ones I remember.
Trust Me (taught by Louie on
Friday) -- you already know
about this one
Cradle (taught by Louie on Friday) -- This is a nice
dance that
is going to do well. I didn't learn it but will!!
Mellow Yellow was taught by Jane Marie Dorsey on Friday
as well as
Mars Attack (I already know this high-energy dance
that will
be a big hit)
Swingin and In These Shoes was taught
Friday by Donna Caudill
The Right Way (taught by Arline Winerman on Friday
and I wanted to learn this).
The Way (also taught by Arline and I got Diane to show
me this one. Nice dance!! Love the music. I had seen this for the first
time at the Marathon last year but it's just now really catching on.
This Love of Ours and Party Time Tonight
was taught by Suzanne Wilson (and I also heard about a good dance that
Suzanne just did with Guyton)
Street Soul was taught by Louie on Friday. You should
learn this dance. I think it's going to keep moving up, up, up the chart
Par Ti Cha (we got there too late to learn this one
Sat morning but I love the music and it's a good cha.)
Hambones and Blackbirds, I did finally learn this dance
and I love the music. I liked the steps because they are different but
are so with the beat of the music that once you get the combinations,
it's very easy to do. I would say it's a solid Int dance.
I was talking with Guyton about Sandy Albano (one of the
choreographers of this dance along with Kathy Brown and Lindy Bowers.)
Sandy, do you have any IDEA how much Guyton appreciates you? It was
late and I was cold but he went on and one about you and I just wanted
you to know that you must be doing a good job putting up with that crazy
person you work with because he couldn't say enough nice things about
you!!
Whatever Happens was taught by Louie or blasted from
the past but it was all new to me again. We had done this dance so many
times at Worlds in 2004 I thought I would never forget it but I did
and it's still a great and challenging dance
Misty was taught by Marilyn McNeal but I was yakking
and didn't make that class
Going All the Way was also taught by Marilyn and this
was one of my favorites of the weekend. You are going to like this dance;
the music is energetic and the dance is an easy int. I liked it a lot.
Busted was taught by Christine Bass and I missed that
because I was in Barry Durand's class taking Mockingbird.
How can you not love dancing to that music?
I did make Christine's class for Groove me. I had seen
a video of this dance and wanted to learn it so was glad she taught
it.
Catch Your Breath was taught by Donna Caudill. Another
great dance by Donna. I wish I had taken this class.
Nancy Morgan taught Cowboy Polka, Unchained
(both easy dances that your clubs and classes will like) but when she
taught Killing Time the class applauded and you know
that's a good sign. I really like the music and the dance and it was
a different syle dance from Nancy. I am sending the sheet out in one
of the next batches
of new dances because I'm really far behind!!!
AT Kinson taught but I don't have the name of the dance listed
Adrenaline, Barry Durand's new dance was taught but
I didn't
learn it
Latin Spice was being taught right when we left by
Louie and I need to learn this one!!
I Like It by Rachelle Schiffi was taught after we left
as well as a dance by Guyton Mundy but I think he was teaching Cadillac
Ride and his new one.
Even though we stayed up until after two Saturday
night, we got up and took Barry's class for Speechless
and I'm glad I woke up. I think this is going to be a biggie dance with
the high int/adv crowd and I KNOW it will be done a lot at Boston next
weekend.
Hope I didn't miss anyone. Thanks, as always,
to the Conovers for doing this event and for making the line dancers
feel welcome. We try to never miss it and it's great dancing with friends
we don't get to see enough. PLEASE REMEMBER TO VOTE EARLY THIS WEEK.
We won't get home until late Sunday night so be nice to me and let me
do most of the survey before I leave!!!
