NAME: Geoff Ellis
Unfortunately only met Bucky once and that was at Arline's class in 2005. All I can say is "once seen never forgotten", an absolute character whose presence on the dance floor was electric. I often take a look at the link on Carol's website marked Bucky Craven clean up to the elbows and have a laugh watching him dance. Just click here http://www.worldlinedancenewsletter.com/videoclips.html#funny
you'll see what I mean.

NAME: Carol (UK)
Theres not just one story but many that should be told about Bucky...I live in Florida 6 months and try and get to as many workshops as I can, and if Bucky and Carol was there we all knew we would have fun and be laughing all night. I advize anyone that didn't have the pleasure of meeting him should watch the videos of him and see what I mean.

NAME: Cliff (UK)
I never knew Bucky in this world but some time ago I had a look at an online video and there was this guy with a great big grin on his face, putting his all into a linedance. I found myself grinning along with him and thinking, "Yeah, that's what it's all about!" Leave a space in the line for me, Bucky.

My memories of Bucky (by Diane Astier)

When the Craven's lived in California, they were our neighbors. Bucky used to have a red van with some kind of loud speaker on it. He would drive on our street and call out our names until we came out!

One time they had us over for a very nice dinner and served an after dinner drink with whipped cream on top. Bucky, put shaving cream on mine. After I tasted it I got up and chased him for two blocks (and I caught him).

He crashed another neighbor's party. He put on a bathrobe, shower cap, roller skates, and skated right into their closet and closed the door. We drug him out. He was so naughty.

When we went to visit them in Vermont, he took us out on the lake in his little boat and promptly ran out of gas. It took him quite awhile to row us back, while we laughed! We took turns with a video camera on that trip and of course he was up to his usual craziness (I have it on film) and when we left, the video shows Bucky and Carol counting their silverware and towels!

Oh, I could tell you all so many things about Bucky?..I miss him so.

I can't pick just one story about Bucky, cause there were so many. I first met Carol and Bucky at Spurs Saloon many years ago, I remember this crazy dancer, he'd get up on the speakers and dance, he'd get up behind you and you would turn and he'd give you a fright. Spurs closed and we all moved to Borderline. Every week here was this crazy fun dancer. He certainly got the looks from the non-dancers with his escapades. I remember seeing him jump up in the air, go down into a full split and come right up. He loved dancing to it's fullest. One time we went on a road trip together and all I can remember from the trip was this voice from the back seat, "Are we there yet".
"Are we there yet?"
Bucky was a very special person, and he supported our dance community 100%. I will miss him terribly.

I can remember the first time I saw Bucky dancing on the floor. I got such a kick out of watching, and wondering how he could purposely mess up a dance and then jump right back in at just the right place. I never minded dancing near him, because even if you messed up too, it was more fun than dancing normal (whatever that might be).

Howdy, Cowboy Bucky: It's about time you woke up from a long sleep and danced to a better place. Would you know my name if I see you in heaven? That die-hard line dancer, the Chinese Cowgirl? On that early June summer day just before my hunsband and I left for Taipei DanceFuntAsia this year, we certainly did not recognize each other in the beginning of our final meeting at the Round-Up (after my absence from the place for several years). However, when the music started, you began to arise from your pre-dance snooze under your big cowboy hat. The moment I saw your unique, lively moves, to my good friend, Jean, I declared: "Oh, yes, I remember that guy from before" (while working at Tampa General Hospital before I relocated to Bradenton." To my further pleasant surprise, I was informed that you were Carol's soul-mate. Suddenly, DJ was playing "Long-leg Hannah", I tried to figure out the steps, you appeared right in front of me with delighted smile and said: "You remember this dance?" I replied not really, we had more fun trying to figure out together. From that moment on, I felt that I seemingly never moved away from Tampa. Bucky, you had that charisma to make people laugh and feel at home.
OK, Bucky, if I ever hear "Hannah" I will always remember you. Meanwhile, get your cow-boy hat ready. we will do "Hannah" again and perfectly when we are all rounded up in heaven...would you know my name then?

Even thought I didn't have many opportunities to get to know Bucky, my memories are of this cheerful, cheeky, lively man having an absolute ball on the dancefloor. To me Bucky was what line dancing is all about, having fun and enjoying every minute of it. He will be sorely missed on our line dance floors but I will keep that picture of him in my mind and his dance philosophy in my heart. I can imagine how Carol and his family will miss him. My thoughts are with you all. Vivienne Scott
