NAME: Nicole
My favorite Bucky story involves a rather comical case of mistaken identity. Carol and Bucky introduced me to the awesome experience of "dance weekends". I often travelled to the events with them and could almost always be found dancing and goofing off near them. Bucky would pretend to "spank" me and we would rub our butts when dancing to Swing Your Chains. The first event that I attended without Bucky and Carol, a fellow dancer asked how my parents were doing and if they would be attending. At first, I was quite dumb-founded as to how this person would know my parents and why they thought my father of all people would be caught anywhere near a dance floor. I quickly realized that this person believed Bucky to be my father - I instantly recalled our antics on the dance floor and was attacked with images of my father pretending to spank me and of him rubbing his backside while dancing --- "ewwwwwww." That type of behavior only works for a personality like
Bucky :-) I will always treasure our moments together dancing and sharing the last two warm beers on Saturday night - his spirit will forever be behind me on the dance floor giggling and preparing to scream and scare the daylights out of me when I turn around - and I will love every minute of it. Miss you Buck!

I met Bucky around 1991 in Vermont. He then was the funniest, craziest dancer on the dance floor. I can remember him doing his fish flops on the dance floor and dancing with his guns by his side to I'm A Cowboy with Kevin. New comers would look at me and say "How Can You Dance Next To Him". I use to say "Just don't try to follow him and you will be okay". He sure did love dance and I loved to watch him.

Our story is when we saw Bucky & Carol for the first time in Ybor City at Spurs a few years ago. We had been dancing a long time but we had never seen anything quite like Bucky. After watching for a while you realized that he was really very talented. In order to make it look like you don't know what you're doing, you do everything contrary to how it should be done, & you still end up in the right place. You have to be really good. Then we learned, after a wonderful friendship started, that it was just Bucky's way. He was a natural. He could make any dance fun. It was so funny to watch young people come up to him while he was dancing & try to do what he was doing or to try to learn the dance itself. Bucky, if they could have learned it your way they were lucky because they would have learned it from the best. But it was more than that, it was a persona that was unique to a man that had fun doing what he loved best. No one ever came near him without getting spooked, confused or just downright hysterical, not to mention forget a dance that they had done for years. His enthusiasm for dancing was wonderful. We heard many people say "Oh great, that guy's out there. Wait till you see what he does". Bucky you didn't know them, but they all knew you. You brought smiles to many faces & the only tears were from laughing too much.
All that aside we also saw the other Bucky. There was the one who loved his wife more than anything. She was his heart & soul. The father who loved his son. The one who missed his bird Lucy when he had to leave her to go on dance trips & would just pet her & hug her when he came to pick her up. The one who made his new shed & was so proud. The one that talked ever so fondly of friends in different parts of the US & the times they had together. There was the competitive Bucky who played pool & did some strange things that were as amusing as they were interesting. We will miss all those Bucky 'ways'. We'll have to wait to hear you say again 'What do you think of this move', after you had thought out some nutty way to do something. Save a space in the line dance for us Bucky cause we want to dance with you again.

With love & fond memories always,
Al & Toni Russell

Back in the Winter of 2004-2005, I went every Thursday night to Round-Up in Oldsmar FL, and the most fun times I remember was Bucky dancing next to Stacy! He did all kinds of silly things, whirling around and just acting like a nut, but he always knew the dances and never missed a beat! And Stacy is such a great dancer, that she went along with him; it was just a joy to watch all their carrying on. Carol said she couldn't dance beside him, because he was such a distraction, and she'd shake her head and roll her eyes! They both made dancing FUN, and I always will remember Bucky's antics with a smile.

Winters can be brutal in Vermont. Let me set the scene. Bucky and Carol bought the house next to mine. It sat on a little hill overlooking mine and they installed a bay window overlooking my house. I don't know why, my life isn't that interesting! Anyway, in the severe winter when it is below O and the snow is blowing I always start my car and let it warm up while I prepare for work. Imagine my surprise when I went out to go to work and my car was missing ! I took a walk up the road and low and behold - Bucky had stolen my car !!!

after a couple of introductions to this fella I could only sit and watch with one big smile on my face at how Bucky made his fun. One of a kind, out of this world, no holes barred individual.
my last interaction with bucky was at jg2 this past may. he told me he had just told james greagory that the power had gone out in the main ballroom and he had a big grin on his face.
I only had the pleasure a few times but I will always remember the man and his hat.
he has only gone before us and we shall dance again. love to carol and justin.
